The Ministry of Culture has changed the regulation for grants to audiovisual productions and introduced conditions on mandatory subtitles. All films that receive public funding after 1 January 2012 will have to be shown with subtitles.
This will make Norwegian films available to a wider audience and help to make society more inclusive and accessible to all parts of the population.
The amendment is part of the Government's overall cultural policy aiming to facilitate that all groups will have access to a wide range of different arts and cultural events of high artistic and professional quality.
