Hushovd's victory brought Norway's first world champion in the men's elite class. Earlier in the championship, Knut Knudsen in 1979 and Dag Otto Lauritzen in 1993 had been in 7th place as the most successfull Norwegian cyclists.
– It is so unbeliavable that I am a world champion. It is a dream. I'm speechless, “said Hushovd to NRK.
He also suggested that he had this chance, and maybe he would never again to an Australian television after the race.
In the race on Sunday morning, Matti Breschel from Denmark took the silver. The bronze went to Allan Davis from Australia.
