In the first group game away, Norwegian giant, Rosenborg could not make a good showing. Just after three minutes, Bayer Leverkusen took the lead after Eren Derdiyok's assist to Patrick Helmer, who sent the ball easily to the goal.
The Germans continued to press on Rosenborg's defense after scoring and they had the ball control in most of the first round, while Rosenborg had trouble keeping the ball. Rosenborg's lack of control ended with a difficult first half with 2-0 to Bayer Leverkusen.
Rosenborg got to hold more on the ball and played a more organized game in the beginning of the second half. However, the Norwegian team could not stop score to be 4-0 with Patrick Helmer's two successive goals in 2 minutes.
In the other matches in Rosenborg's group, Aris Thessaloniki won 1-0 over Atletico Madrid in Greece. The Greek team will visit Rosenborg on 30 September.
