Norway Police Asks for Continuation of Armament

Justice Minister Anders Anundsen confirms that police requested continued armament and that he will respond this week.

According to Aftenposten, the letter from the Police Directorate states that threat assessment has not changed significantly since the last request for armament in early June.

– The Ministry has received a request from the Police Directorate for consent to continue temporarily armament after August 2, 2015. The application is being processed by the Ministry and a decision will be made this week, says Justice Minister Anders Anundsen in an e-mail to Aftenposten .

He said there is no ground to deny the request.

– Based on the assessments made by Police Intelligence Service (PST), I have concluded that it would not be relevant to deny the request for continued temporary armament of the police for a new period of eight weeks.
