Four Norwegian children set to explore North Pole in the footsteps of Nansen together with explorer Borge Ousland. Youngsters are the protagonists of Norwegian state TV NRK’s new program “Arven etter Nansen (Nansen’s Legacy)”.

The expedition takes a shortcut and with the help of Russian aircraft and helicopter, they forward to 89 degrees north. From there, they have taken a 110 km highly demanding expedition route. The trip will continue for a week, and youngsters are sleeping outside in tents.

– Our goal is that youngsters across the country should be inspired by these four to care more about climate, environment, recreation and the Arctic, says project manager at NRK Super Tromso, Havard Gulldahl.

600 young people had applied for joining in the expedition, and the four were selected after several rounds of questions and tests. The last six months they have prepared themselves by pulling the deck, reading a lot about the Arctic and practicing skiing.
