Explosion in Norway is First of Its Kind in Europe

A truck with about 15 tons of liquefied was caught fire and later exploded in the north of Mosjøen yesterday afternoon. The police has cordoned a zone of a radius of 1 kilometer from the explosion site.  Directorate for Civil Protection and Emergency Planning (DSB) also sent experts to the explosion site.

Explosives experts have arrived on the site today at 16.00 together with the Norwegian Public Roads Administration and the police.

– Such an accident has never happened in Norway before. It has not actually happened in Europe before either, says manager of DSB Siri Hagehaugen to VG.

She adds that a similar event took place in Canada for around ten years ago.

DSB now assists police in the investigation of the incident. They also consider to propose a change of rules for handling explosives after a full review.
