Use of social media will not be allowed during working hours for municipal employees in Nesna. This is the main point of the proposed regulation by the municipality. Guidelines for use of social media has previously been presented, after two bullying and harassment cases on social media were revealed among the communial employees. These cases led to discussion on regulations of using Facebook, Twitter, blogs and discussion sites.

According to the new proposal, employees can not use social media during working hours, but provides an opening if the use is related to the work duties. The regulation also brings restrictions on using office E-mail address in private messaging.
The proposal in Nesna is to be approved by the city council, the principal officers and the three largest trade unions.
