A New Era in Kazakhstan

On the 26th of April Kazakhstan, the largest country and economy in Central Asia, held the presidential elections, one year earlier than it was originally decided. The government stated that the purpose for such change was to understand the real public opinion on the current situation in the country, since it is experiencing the pressure of economic turbulence in the region and globally and difficult foreign policy challenges.

Together with journalists and observers from around the world, we arrived in the capital Astana to watch the preparations, procedure and the celebrations of this important event, where two other candidates competed against Nazarbayev, as well as making observations about the socio-political and cultural context of this less known unique country.
