Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg is surprized by the economic disparities among Americans during his visit to New York for his last UN summit as prime minister.
The Norwegian prime minister talked at an informal press breakfast before he began a three-day meeting marathon in New York. He commented on the new figures showing that economic inequality in the United States reaches a high level.
The figures he referred are from a report written by economist Emmanuel Saez at Berkeley University, which also shows that 99 percent of the U.S. population have not yet experienced an economic growth since the financial crisis of 2008.
– The wealthiest rate in this country has received 95 percent of economic growth United States has had since 2003. The social mobility in the U.S. is reduced. The opportunity to achieve the American dream is larger in Norway than it is in the United States, Stoltenberg said.
