Almost all immigrants pass Norwegian language test

84% of candidates who took the examination in 2015 showed the knowledge of elementary level or higher of Norwegian language during the written test and 90% passed the oral test. Thus, the goals the government set for 2015 were achieved, writes ABC nyheter.

– The vast majority of immigrants have a strong desire to work in Norway and understand that in order to do it in a better way, you have to acquire good language skills, comments Andreas Furuseth from Norwegian Organization for Asylum Seekers (NOAS) to P4.

The government will also give municipalities the right to withhold financial support for immigrants who failed Norwegian language test.

– It will add to their motivation to learn Norwegian and will get more people to pull out all the stops to achieve good results, argues Minister of Immigration and Integration Sylvi Listhaug to NTB.
