In summer, Climate and Environment Minister Tine Sundtoft asked Environment Directorate to consider the practice of waste export, after complaints from Norwegian incinerator plants.
– We believe it is not smart to restricts the export of waste to Sweden. It’s not good environmentally and neither contributes to cost effective solutions. Export of waste to Sweden has helped us to achieve our national environmental target of 80 percent recycling, says Ellen Hambro from Environment Directorate to Aftenposten.
In 2013, 1.6 million tonnes of waste was exported from Norway. Most of this went to Swedish incinerator, where prices are often lower than in Norwegian incinerator.
