ISIS Claims To Have a Norwegian Hostage

The extremist group has posted pictures of the two men wearing yellow prison outfit. Hostages’ identities were published on Wednesday, according to AP.

The Norwegian citizen, who IS claims to hold captured, is ethnically Norwegian. The Chinese man is reportedly in his 50s, working as a consultant in the area.

Prime Minister Erna Solberg (H) confirms that a Norwegian citizen is abducted and held captive in Syria.

– This is a serious and complicated matter. The aim of our efforts is to make our citizens safe home to Norway, says Prime Minister Erna Solberg to NTB.

A crisis team headed by Foreign Ministry has worked on the issue for a while.

The terror group does not reveal when or where the two were captured but demands a ransom for their release.

On the other hand Erna Solberg said Norway will never pay ransom as it will lead to kidnapping of more Norwegian citizens.

The captured Norwegian man wrote on social media that he arrived Idlib in Syria in January this year. He also published numerous articles and videos about the conflict in the country, reports NRK.

The latest status update the Norwegian man posted on Facebook, is from Idlib in northern Syria on 24 January. When he wrote that he had finally come into Idlib, which was partially held by the rebels, in part by regime forces.
