16.000 Syrian Refugees are Expected to Norway before Christmas

According to Aftenposten’s report, Norwegian humaniterian organization, Norsk Folkehjelp (Norwegian People’s Aid) has so far confirmed that about 2,100 refugees arrived in Norway in only August.

The number of unaccompanied minors has tripled, writes the newspaper.  The organization confirms that 440 of 2,100 of them were minors. The youngest one is at the age of eleven, but most are between 15 and 18.

Norsk Folkehjelp predicts that August numbers will continue to increase throughout the fall and winter.

– What we see is that all the forecasts seem to have failed. So far this year, about 8,000 have entered in Norway. But every day in August, there have been between 50-100 seeked asylum. If this trend continues throughout the year – and there is every reason to believe – we will end at around 16,000 refugee arrivals in Norway in 2015, says Norsk Folkehjelp’s Tom Hjertholm to Aftenposten.

The government has decided to take in total 8000 Syrian refugees for the next three years.
