According to Aftenposten’s report, Labor Party (Ap) has prepared a revolutionary media policy.
The party suggests that global media companies should pay taxes in Norway, with the aim of strengthening the funding of media support programs.
Media spokesman in Ap, Arild Grande, says it is a significant challenge for the Norwegian media market that companies like Facebook and Google have substantial revenues in Norway without contributing to the community.
This year Google is expected to sell 2.5 billion in ads in Norway, making the company the largest player on the Norwegian advertising market. Facebooks revenue will also reach to 1.2 billion NOK.
According to Dagens Næringsliv, Google paid only 742,469 NOK in taxes in Norway in 2013.
– This is a difficult and important issue that both the Tax Office and Finance Ministry is closely monitoring. It also requires research work under the auspices of the OECD, says professor of economics at NHH Jarle Møen to Aftenposten.
