An information center will be built together with the government quarter, which was targeted during the twin terror attacks by Anders Behring Breivik.
– This is an important piece of our history and must be communicated to future generations, says Prime Minister Erna Solberg.
Meanwhile the Government has announced strengthening of research on right-wing extremism. In this frame, the center will coordinate research activities on right-wing extremism.
– Knowledge can be our primary weapon against hatred, violence and extremism. We should not forget what happened and how we as a nation were affected by the terrorist attack. Simultaneously, we need more knowledge about prevention against such extremism, says Solberg.
The government has established a dialogue with Labor Party Youth branch, AUF and the National Support Group for the realization of the national memorial sites after 22 July 2011. The two organizations had suggested establishing an information center in the government quarter.
– The center will primarily provide facts about the terrorist attacks and why the new government quarter is built. We have now decided that the information center shall be established next to the government tower in the government quarter, says Municipal and modernization Minister Jan Tore Sanner.
