Norway to Sell Its .bv Domain to Netherland

State-owned Norid runs the registry for Norwegian domain names. All domain names directly under .no, .bv and .sj are registered with the company.

The company now consider renting out  Norway’s little-known top level Bouvet island’s domain extension .bv., writes digi.no

The reason why they take the decision is inactivity of the domain because only penguins are living on the island.

Norid then enter in talks to offer top-level domain .bv on the Dutch market, confirms CEO Hilde Thunem.

According to Thunem, the idea has been discussed with the Norwegian authorities, which are positive to this. There are however no plans about Svalbard and Jan Mayen domains, which are also managed by the Norwegian company.
