Dalai Lama to Norway in February

In February, Dalai Lama is returning to Norway for visiting the International Student Festival in Trondheim (ISFiT), the world’s largest student festival.

Dalai Lama’s visit has been recently confirmed and ISFiT announced the news during the academic year opening at NTNU in this morning.

Talknig to Dagbladet, ISFiT president Marius Jones said that the main reason for getting him to the festival is his being a great inspiration to all world’s students.

– Dalai Lama visited the festival in 1994. ISFiT invited him back because of his values, attitudes, and his engagement for human rights and peace, wrote ISFIT.

Dalai Lama had caused uproar when he last visited Norway in May to mark the 25 years of having received the Nobel Peace Prize. Due to Norway’s delicate relations with China, Prime Minister Erna Solberg, Foreign Minister Børge Brende and parliamentary president Olemic Thommessen had not met him.

What is ISFiT?

ISFiT is short for the “International Student Festival in Trondheim”. What the name does not say, is that ISFiT is also the world’s largest international student festival.

ISFiT is arranged every other year, and each festival has a theme related to social and political topics with international relevance. The festival is held in the city of Trondheim, Norway. Here, over 450 students from all over the world gather to attend 17 different workshops and take part in the festivals culture program. ISFiT is a non-profit organization and is brought to life with the efforts of more than 400 student volunteers.
