– The police got to know that they had plans to join the terrorist group ISIL in Syria. Two of them have previosuly attended to so-called foreign fighters, said Jan Glent Deputy in the investigation and prosecution department at PST.

PST has arrested the three on the basis of reasonable grounds with the suspect of violation of Penal Code § 147d, to participate in – or support a terrorist organization, according to a press release from PST.

The three accused were arrested to prevent further support or endorsement to ISIL. In light of what has emerged in the investigation, PST believes the accused ones pose a threat to Norway and its allies.

On the other hand, Jan Glent emphasizes that they are not accused of plotting a terrorist action against Norwegian targets.

PST estimates that 40-50 Norwegian citizens have participated in the Civil War in Syria.
