Thousands Opted Out From Church Membership after Norwegian Church Council’s Decision on Gay Wedding

Siv Thompson from the Church Council (Kirkeråd)says to VG that it would be naive to think that this traffic has nothing to do with the Council’s decision on gay weddings.

– We can interpret it as a reaction to what happened at the general assembly of the Church Council, said senior adviser Siv Thompson to VG.

Several individuals and public figures have urged people to withdraw from the church membership after the decision of the council’s general assembly. 

The Norwegian church has around 3.8 million members in the 5 million country. In 2013, 5464 people opted out of church for different reasons.
