The largest increase of deportation is among convicts. This year the Police Immigration Service (PU) sent forcibly 427 convicts, an increase of 60 percent compared with the same period of last year, writes NRK.
– Increased focus on escorting convicts is important for this government. Now PU works hard to follow up the guidelines from the government, said Justice Minister Anders Anundsen (FRP) to NRK.
In the course of 2013, 5934 people without legal residence were deported. The goal for this year is 6,700, a significant increase from the previous years. In 2012, the number of deported people was just under 5000. The increase in 2013 was 21 percent.
– There is an important policy objective in the context of asylum flow to Norway. If you can not stay, you should leave the country quickly. This will also mean that more will return voluntarily, says Anundsen who believes the increase will lead to fewer asylum seekers coming to Norway this year.
