Last year, the former coalition had proposed to legalize smoking heroine in public injections rooms for the drug addicts. The proposal received broad political support, including from government supporter Liberal party (Venstre), and intended to reduce infection risk and overdose.
Health Minister Bent Høie, however, pointed to critical objections from drug abuse organizations, police and psychologists.
– The legalization of smoking in the injection rooms will make open a path to legalize drugs that are normally prohibited, said Høie to NRK.
She also noted that the most important thing they can do for addicts is to provide them treatment and health care.
