Marita Brunstad Sperre and her two friends were hiking in western Norwegian district Sunnmøre Sulafjellet last week and when the thick fog lifted, they got shocked what they saw, reports NRK.
– Suddenly I saw a circular rainbow with my shadow inside. It was scary, says Sperre.
As the three friends set out on tour, fog was so thick that they could not see fjord, instead they could see a faint rainbow where they walked along the edge of the mountain. On the way back, the rainbow became more visible and visible.
The strange thing was that it was completely round. All three women could see their own shadows inside the circle, but they did not see each other’s. When they moved, it was like the rainbow followed after them.
– The phenomenon is called halo crown of rainbow, says the state meteorologist Kjersti Opstadvegen Strand.
The prerequisite for experiencing this is to be on a mountain with a fog or cloud below you and the sun on your back. Then you will be able to see your own shadow on top of the clouds and a halo around the shadow, according to Strand.
