Alcohol Consumption Levels in Nordic and Baltic Countries

The amount of alcohol-related harm in any society tends to rise and fall in line with changes in the total or average level of consumption. The more alcohol is consumed in the society the higher alcohol related harm is likely to be. The lower its level of consumption, the lower its level of harm.

“Although different countries have different methods and capabilities in gathering this data, it gives important basis for comparing the situation in our countries,” explained Lauri Beekmann, secretary general of NordAN. “But the most important comparison can be made inside one country comparing trends in time.”

In Nordic-Baltic region we have countries with the highest per capita consumption in Europe and hence also in the world but also countries with lowest consumption level in Europe.
