The leak was discovered at 9:50 on Wednesday morning, roughly two hours after the filling of fuel oil were done. Oslo fire and rescue department, police, Water and Sewerage Authority and the County Department of Environmental Protection were notified.
Executive director of communications and public relations in Hafslund, Johan Christian Hovland said provisional estimates indicate that 19,000 liters of fuel oil leaked from the plant.
Hovland also said that the company is very concerned and doing everything to clean up the river.
– This is a new tragedy, and what I see here is an environmental crime. We will therefore make police report provider company and demand a full review of standards and procedures for this and other plants, said environment organization Bellona’s president Frederic Hauge.
