Norwegian Development Minister Visits South Africa, Malawi and Mozambique

Development Minister of Norway Heikki Holmås visits the three countries in southern Africa from Monday 26 to Friday 30 November. An important theme of the journey is equitable distribution of power and money. Big difference between poor and rich is an obstacle to development and the fight against poverty in these countries.

Other important themes are gender, family planning and the fight against HIV / AIDS. Work related to green electricity and agriculture that can withstand dangerous changes in the climate are also part of the program. In all the three countries, there will be field visits to see how the everyday lives of poor people can be improved through good development cooperation. Holmås will also meet representatives of governments, civil society and trade unions, the UN and the private sector in the countries.

In Malawi, Holmås will meet President Joyce Banda , one of the few women who are government leaders in Africa. In South Africa, he will visit the mining districts and participate in a conference organized by the organization International Planned Parenthood Federation . In Mozambique, Holmås, among others, will sign a new agreement on energy cooperation between Norway and Mozambique.
