Engraving by Rembrandt Lost by Post

Norwegian Soli Brug Gallery lost Rembrandt etching cost about 8.6 thousand dollars which was bought from a British art dealer. According to Reuters, the work of the Dutch master was sent by mail and did not reach the destination.

Gallery Soli Brug Gallery is located 80 kilometers from Oslo in the village Griker. To save money, gallery usually does not use a courier and insurance does not pay for transport of works of art. In the case of the picture of Rembrandt gallery also decided not to use the services of a courier and took the regular mail.

Soli Brug Gallery officer Ole Dere said that the gallery has received notification that he can pick it up. But when he came to the post, it was not there.

Representatives of the post office apologized for the incident, but advised the gallery to use more reliable means of delivery. According to Dere, the post is ready to compensate them only 85-170 dollars.

Engraving “Lieven Willemsz van Coppenol, Writing Master” was established in 1658. Name of British art dealer, to whom it was belonged, was not disclosed. Soli Brug Gallery among others exhibits works by Dürer, Rembrandt, Goya, Munch and Dali.
