Family Immigration: More Flexibility in the Regulations

The new regulations offer more flexibility as to exemptions from the subsistence requirement, the required means of support.

The UDI will from now on not reject applications that may be included by the new exemptions. Applicants, who have already  had their application rejected, may appeal or submit a new application.

More flexibility

Under the new guidelines there is more room for exemptions from the subsistence requirement for couples who have been in an established relationship over several years and have common children who are Norwegian citizens.

It will also be possible to exempt some applicants who will meet the income requirement in the future, even though they did not do so last year.

Additionally, if the reference person in Norway met the financial requirement in previous years, but did not do so last year, the subsistence requirement could still be considered met if it is probable that the applicant had the opportunity to do so.
