The project has broad participation from food industry and aims to reduce the usable food waste in Norway, with 25 percent by 2015.
If the project achieves its goal of reducing food waste, it will contribute to a significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.
-This is a good and important measures for businesses and consumers, and it shows that industry takes responsibility, says State Secretary Halvard Ingebrigtsen of Trade and Industry Ministry.
ForMat project will map the value chain of food to get good information about the development of, among other things, quantity, composition and amount of usable food waste. It will also develop strategies for prevention of food waste throughout the value chain.
The project has broad support from industry actors within the value chain food. Currently 30 companies have been involved in the project and more will come. Also, researchers such as Nofima and Østfold Research have been participated in the project.
