Anders Behring Breivik Can be Sentenced to 30 Years

The crimes covered by the new chapter in the criminal law on war crimes have a maximum of 30 years in prison, while the maximum imprisonment duration is 21 years for the other crimes.

The chapter was included in the revision of the Penal Code of 2005. Paragraph 102 states that "one who, as part of a widespread or systematic attack directed against a civilian population" should be punished for crimes against humanity. The provision is fairly new, so Norway has no similar examples.
