New Swine Flue Alarm from Lithuania

On 5 and 8 July, 2011 the authorities in Lithuania notified two new outbreaks of classical swine flue on the farms in Jonava district. This is the fourth and fifth cases in the district. Proximity to Norwegian territory, and many Lithuanians' working at Norwegian farms frighten Norwegians for risk of disease transmission to Norway.

Precautions for travelers to and from Lithuania

Norwegian authorities ask people to comply with applicable regulations, and not to bring meat and meat products from Jonova district of Lithuania. Also, the farmers are prohibited to feed animals with food waste of animal origin.

People are urged not to visit the animals in this area until the situation is further clarified.
