People will be able to be exempted from military service for reasons of conviction without involving in civil service.
Justice Minister Knut Storberget pointed out the civil protection duty is primarily created to support recruitment to the Armed Forces. There has been an ever decreasing number of applicants for civil service in recent years. Meanwhile, Military needs for personnel has also been declining.
– Under this circumstances, Norway does not need to prescribe compulsory military personnel to civil service, said Storberget.
