-It is sad and incomprehensible that "Jew" is used as shell-word among students in Oslo school. We are now working on the follow-up of a report on this issue, and I can promise that concrete measures will be initiated at national level, "said Education Minister Kristin Halvorsen.
The Minister took the initiative on the basis of Norwegian state television NRK's news stories about Jewish students' safety at several high schools in Oslo in 2010.
Halvorsen pointed out a report on the issue was prepared by Inge Eidsvåd at the Nansen Academy after the news. The report urges the Ministry of Education to mark the International Holocaust Day 27 January at schools for teaching about anti-Semitism and racism. – As a follow-up of the report of the Eidsvåd, the Ministry has already proposed a change in secondary education curriculum for training teachers on the themes of anti-Semitism and racism, " said she.
In the frame of the initiative, Holocaustsenteret arranges a congress to address the challenges of Jewish groups in society today. There, Minister Halvorsen will have a meeting with Jewish American representatives, and representatives of Jewish and other communities in Norway. This meeting is scheduled for Wednesday 15 June.
