Advisor to the Norwegian Helsinki Committee Aage Borchgrevink criticized the defaming episode of Brennpunkt about the Srebrenica case. The program claimed that the Bosnian President Alija Izetbegovic was responsible for what happened in Srebrenica, where Serb forces killed over 8,000 Bosnian men in 1995. Based on unspecified Serbian sources, the program gave the impression that Srebrenica was genocide, but as the result of an American-Muslim conspiracy against the Bosnian Serbs. The Bosnian Muslims were described as aggressive and deceitful. Borchgrevink notes that the claim is repeated in the program but is never supported by any source.
– “In the documentary, NRK described the genocide in Srebrenica in a similar approach as the Serbian state media when they reported from Bosnia during the time when war-criminal Slobodan Milosevic was president. A serious journalistic project should involve checking the facts and explaining conflicting views. This documentary avoids sources and facts in a sensational manner,” said Borchgrevink.
