Norway Supports the Emergency Medical Aid to Libya

The team will alleviate the acute medical situation for the many injured after the last days of unrest in the country. During the annonucement of the aid, Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Store said use of military force against its own population is unacceptable and contrary to international humanitarian principles. He also noted that it is important to react quickly to remedy the situation for the civilian population in the critical situation.

Norwegian Red Cross sent a surgical team and five sets of medical supplies to Libya as requested by the International Red Cross (ICRC). The team will be stationed in Libya in cooperation with the International Red Cross Committee in the country, and consists of a surgeon, an anesthetist, a surgical nurse and a nurse. It also sent medical supplies for 500 patients.
