The only thing all host families have in common is their Muslim background, and a desire to display a broader picture of Norwegian Muslims than the one in the media. The tea parties will be held across the country from week 10 (Monday, March 7 – Sunday, 13 March).
Statistics show that ethnic Norwegians who know people with minority backgrounds have less prejudice. Statistics also show that the vast majority of the ethnic Norwegian population do not have friends with a minority background.
"This is a strong signal that there is need to meet, and discuss the simple ideas we often have about each other. Especially for the last two years, Norwegian Muslims have experienced a growing negative focus. There is therefore a greater need than ever for sparing time to know each other – simply take a cup of tea together.", wrote the Anti-Racist Center website.
