Liu! Liu! Free you

Around 1200 people marched to celebrate Peace Prize winner Liu Xiaobo with torchlights through the city center on Friday night despite the cold weather. The torch parade started at Youngstorget in Oslo with an appeal from the International Secretary General of Amnesty International, Salil Shetty.

– We march today for Liu, who could not be here, and his wife who is under house arrest in China. But also for the hundreds of students who were shot down in Tiananmen Square, and for the thousands who are imprisoned just for having said their opinions, "said Shetty.

The group started to walk from Youngstorget towards the Grand Hotel, where a large picture of the Nobel Peace Prize winner was projected on the facade.

Liu is serving a prison sentence of 11 years for his struggle for freedom and democracy in China. He has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize four times for his works. Nobel committee decided to give him the prestigious award this year.
