Biologist Anders Often from the Norwegian Institute for Nature Research (NINA) states that the plant is poisonous and can lead to deadly diseases for people if accidentally eaten through milk or honey.
– Even If cows eat a little, you can still be poisoned with the toxin secreted in the milk and we can simply get sick, " said Often.
The experts also warn that the poison from the flower can affect people through bees. The researchers have found that honey gets toxicated, if bees get nectar from these flowers.
About the Flower and Disease
-Each of this poisinous flower, Senecio inaequidens produces 29,000 seeds that are spread by wind and weather, wild animals and people.
-Some animals can tolerate the flower perfectly. While horses can die from the flower, sheep and cows can tolerate it.
The flower came to Europe through the importation of sheep wool and was first discovered in Belgium in 1922. It has spread massively in industrial areas and along roadsides in Germany since 1980. In 1995 the plant was found on a railway track in Oslo . Since it is proven in several municipalities, including the industrial area Lundevågen in Farsund , where the botanist Oddvar Pedersen discovered an instance of several acres in September 2008. Nearly six tons were weeded out and destroyed by burning in October.
The disease caused by the flower is called Cirrhosis. Cirrhosis is a chronic disease of the liver. It means damage to the normal liver tissue that keeps this important organ from working as it should. If the damage is not stopped, the liver gradually loses its ability to carry out its normal functions. This is called liver failure, sometimes referred to as end-stage liver disease.
