The Government Builds Return Centers

The evaluations from both UDI and NTNU Social Research Center have shown that the departure centers have not contributed enough to returns. – When we see that an arrangement does not work as intended, it is important to address it and make necessary changes, “said Justice Minister Knut Storberget in a separate report from the government.

The Government will therefore change the departure centers, and create return centers which are more to emphasize the return information and promotional activities.

– The number of people who have taken advantage of the offers of voluntary returns has increased this year. We see that these services increase the interest to go home. Therefore, we will increase the focus on return-enhancing measures for those with a final rejection, “said Justice Minister.

Standby Reception scheme covered only a small proportion of all individuals with a final rejection. The new scheme means that anyone with a final rejection must move back to their own departments or return centers. The exceptions are unaccompanied minors, which still should be able to live in their own receiving units organized for them.

– This will make the consequences of a refusal clearly, and provide an important signal to the applicants that they must leave Norway, ” suggested the Justice Minister Knut Storberget.
