State Secretary Raimo Valle attended the opening of the ethnic minority group, Sami Social Affairs building – Diehtosiida – in Kautokeino yesterday. He stressed that government policies have the same goal that the Sami language, culture and industries will have secure borders.
In the 4-year period, the building has been completed for ensuring good conditions for Saami knowledge and expertise. The building was designed by Reiulf Ramstad AS Architects and architect Kirsti Knudsen. It is 9400 square feet spread over four levels. The building will house the Sami College, Sami Archive, a branch office for Sámediggi / Sami Parliament, Gáldu – Resource Center for the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, Student Association and the International Center for Reindeer Husbandry.
