16-Year olds will Vote in 2011

20 Norwegian municipalities participate in the pilot project which aims to decrease the voting age to 16 – and 17-year in 2011.

– All 143 municipalities applied to join the project. The interest was overwhelming. If we want to have a living local democracy in the future, we must have the youth with us. I hope 16 year olds will be able to vote in local elections, says Local Government and Regional Minister Magnhild Meltveit Kleppa.
