NRC Responds to Increased Military Spending in Afghanistan

Refugee Council responds strongly to the proposal to spend more money on military operations in Afghanistan, while aid funding in real terms reduced in 2010 budget.If the proposal goes through, the distance between the Norwegian military and civilian contributions will be larger, reported NCL website.

Minimum Requirements

– We set a minimum requirement that Norway should give more support to help those in need emergently and poor people in Afghanistan. It is a very negative signal for peaceful nation of Norway, it seems less important to use the money to help those who are affected by the bloody conflict, which also constantly getting worse, “said Secretary General of NRC Elisabeth Rasmusson in the report.

More Money for Military

According to the budget proposal, the defense budget was increased to 35 billion with an increase of 1.5 billion.
