In 2008, the number of organ transplants has increased with 6 percent compared to 2007. Total 425 patients received new organ. This is the highest figure ever in Norway. The highest number came from living donor (close family) with kidney. Norway has therefore climbed the top of the world when it comes to donations from living donor. Also, as a result of the increase in organ transplants, the number of patients on the list for a new organ (heart, liver, lungs, kidney and pancreas) decreased by almost nine percent from 2007 to 2008.
