Norway’s Oil Giant Offers Severance Package to All Employees

Downsizing plans in Norwegian oil giant, Statoil lead to mass dismissal, writes Stavanger Aftenblad.

Talking to NRK, Statoil information director Knut Rostad says that all employees now have the opportunity to apply for a severance package but it does not mean that more will be dismissed than previously planned.

– We have previously announced that staffing will be reduced up to 1,500 FTEs in the end of 2016, says Rostad.

He also notes that this mass severage package step is just a tool for achieving the goals of downsizing.

It is the first time in history, all employees were offered severance packages. Previously, Statoil offered severance packages for only teams and departments, according to NRK.

Statoil has gradually downsized since 2013 in various departments and sections of the company. After downsizing next year there will be around 21,000 employees in Statoil.
