Every Third Engineer in Norway Fears Losing Job

Stavanger Aftenblad published a survey which The Norwegian Society of Engineers and Technologists (NITO) has made among its members. According to the survey, more and more engineers fear losing their jobs.

21 percent of NITO members said that they fear losing their job, compared with 18.9 percent in January. In Western Norway, this share increased from 25.7 to 29 percent. In Rogaland, it is as high as 32.3 percent.

– When you see colleagues around you are fired, it is understandable that some are troubled, says President Trond Markussen in NITO to Stavanger Aftenblad.

NITO president is concerned that downsizing is moving too fast. NITO believe namely that the downturn in the oil industry is temporary and that the engineering competence therefore needs to be taken care of.
