Norwegian Strike to Change Working Standarts in Norway Dramatically

Talking to NRK, Professor Eli Moen says what has been experienced during the Norwegian strike could be a milestone for dramatic changes in the workplace with loss of rights.

The outcome of the the strike will have dramatic consequences for many Norwegian workers – not just for pilots, says Moen to NRK.

She notes that the use of work agencies will increase in several industries in paralllel with the OECD area.

Labor law expert Jan Tormod Dege agrees with Moen. He points out that internationalization and globalization has been happening for a long time, but it is suddenly much clearer in Norway.

– The strike at Norwegian Air will be an eye opener for Norwegian employers. It’s about more than pilots and passengers. It’s going to have impact on many workers, says Dege to NRK.

Both Dege and Moen believes that Norwegian workers will soon feel the internationalization trend of working conditions in their wallets.

– It means sharp reduction in wages, loss of job security and rights as sick pay and vacation, says Moen.
