Meat Industry Fears of Beef Shortage in Norway

There is currently 1,500 tonnes of meat in stock, including the meat to be used for minced meat and sausages. Maximum tariff of 66 NOK per kg for imported meat concerns the meat industry, writes Dagens Næringsliv.

Talking to the newspaper, Meat and Poultry Association (KLF) marketing director  Endre Myhr said that grill and steak season is threatened and there is now an urgent problem to be solved by the Norwegian Agricultural Authority (SLF) by reducing tariffs.

The Association has now applied for reduced tariffs on imported beef. The industry wants duty to be reduced to 20 NOK per kg. SLF will consider the application next week.
