Statistics Norway (SSB) reveals that there has been no growth in the number of “commercial guest” in the summer season, which lasts from May to July.
Innovation Norway tourism director Per-Arne Tuftin sees a clear correlation between the decrease and the strong currency.
– We think that the economic crisis in Europe and the U.S. make people travel less, and the competition gets tougher, says Tuftin to NRK.
Only in July there were 99,400 fewer night stays at Norwegian hotels than last year, and four per cent fewer foreign tourists in whole country.
