– It is not without reason that the Norwegian seafood
industry is so strong. Our seafood is a quality product delivered by a skilled
industry. It is impressive to have a successful year at a time when several of
our major markets are experiencing great economic turmoil, says Minister of
Fisheries and Coastal Affairs Lisbeth Berg-Hansen during the presentation of
Norwegian seafood export figures for 2011 in Tromsø, on 4 January.
The Norwegian seafood export was 53 billion NOK in 2011,
just over 1% lower than the record year 2010. 2011 has been historically the
year of wild caught fish export with a value of 21.9 billion NOK. Also, the
aquaculture industry exported seafood for 31 billion NOK, with a decline of 2.3
billion compared with 2010.
