Celebrating Norwegian Salmon number 10,000,000 to China

The Norwegian Seafood Export Council (NSEC) finds it natural to celebrate the occasion by spotlighting the Norwegian Salmon industry’s strong central position in Norwegian seafood exports and the excellent trade relations that Norwegian exporters have with the Chinese market.

A special, comprehensive programme of events will mark the celebratory journey to Shanghai. There will be a marketing campaign aimed at Chinese consumers, and a world record attempt at a sushi mosaic will take place on 15 October.

Ever since the beginning of the Norwegian Salmon adventure as far back as the early 1960s, Norwegian seafood exports have made massive headway all over the world. In the mid-1980s the first consignment of Norwegian Salmon was shipped to China, and since the early 1990s the market has been more systematically developed and more exporters have entered the market to meet the growing demand.

In 2009, Norwegian Salmon exports totalled NOK 23.7 billion and a total of 23,180 tonnes of Norwegian Salmon was exported to China and Hong Kong alone to a value of NOK 780 million. By the time that Norwegian Salmon number 10 million is exported this autumn, the total value of Norwegian Salmon exports to China and Hong Kong will be approximately NOK 5.6 billion.

This week the 10millionth Norwegian Salmon arrives Shanghai:
