Energy company Eidsiva, having competed with Daimyo to build a district heating plant in Gjøvik, donated 500.000 kroner for a Centre Party-controlled Oil and Energy project in 2009. On 10 June 2010, the Ministry decided to award the license for district heating production in Gjøvik to Eidsiva. Some media have referred it in connection with the donation case.
Afterward, the company published a note of apology and admitted it was wrong to participate in the financing of the project where the Centre Party was involved. – The case was handled naive of us and we apologize, “says CEO Ola Mørkved Rinnan.
Eidsiva was one of several players who participated in a project on promotion of renewable energy called “Let the energy of life”. Several experts at the universities NTNU and UMB gave the project authority and integrity. The other partners were Troms Kraft, John Deere AGRI, Småkraftverk Society and Forest Glommen BA. Eidsiva chose to contribute to the financing of this project.
– It was wrong to partially finance a project that was led by a political party and we apologize for this. From now on, Eidsiva will go over company procedures and policies for contributions to projects of this kind carefully, especially with regard to projects where political parties may have a role, “said Rinnan.
Oil and Energy Minister Terje Riis-Johansen, on the other hand, maintained that he did not know about financial support to his party from the company in 2009.
